Today I take apart the 948cc A-Series engine that is going into Barn Sprite #5. It has been sitting around for years outside the car and is no longer the original color. What will I find out about it when I take it apart?
Today I attempt to get Barn Sprite #2 driving by cleaning the carburetors and putting in a new master cylinder and clutch slave cylinder.
Last round I found the starter that I was using needed rebuilt to be good enough to reliably turn the engine over. I now have the starter fix and installed and ready to see if the engine will now run.
Last round I found the engine was stuck and without a driveshaft I could not break the engine free. Today I install the missing driveshaft, deal with more surprise missing parts, and again see if the Sprite will run.
Racing video from my 1967 Austin Mini Cooper S in the 2012 HVR Showboat Showdown at Motorsports Park Hastings with the HVR. This race was held on Sunday September 9th 2012 during the NASA and HVR race weekend. This was my first time racing my then fairly new to me Cooper S.
I decided to paint the Number 6 Barn Sprite because it looked terrible and needed to painted anyways. What better paint job to give it than one in tribute of one of the most colorful car gals of the 1960s Donna Mae Mims. Mims was the first female driver to win a National SCCA Championships in it’s then 20 year history.
Today I take the Number 1 Sprite that I found in a barn a month ago down to the 2020 Heartland British Auto Fest in LeClaire, Iowa.
Today I finally take a look at the barn find Sprite I labeled #2. I clean it out and see if I can get it started without any parts.
A few miles from me I found an Austin Healey Sprite that was once owned and raced by Jaguar CEO and President Mike Dale.
